VR improvements, Yas Marina and a farewell to a legend, it’s your weekly fix of The DiRT Roadbook!
Version 1.9 – Available Now
Version 1.9 of DiRT Rally 2.0 went live earlier this week with some big changes and fixes to the game, based on your continued feedback since launch. The highlight was the inclusion of Oculus SDK support on Steam, bringing headset performance up to speed with the Oculus Store version.
It was great to read the comments on the Steam forums of the game running well for you all, glad you’re all having a cracking time. Patch Notes are below if you haven’t seen them yet, and our DiRT fans have been doing videos on the update, which you can see above.

Petter Solberg’s Farewell Tour – Wales Rally
Welcome to @WalesRallyGB! Recce is done, tricky to be back in rallying after so long, but it will be fun for sure! To be honest I’m more nervous for @OliverSolberg01 than anything! pic.twitter.com/HcXMKJZ3Lf
— Petter Solberg (@Petter_Solberg) October 2, 2019
This weekend Petter Solberg’s illustrious rallying career comes to close as he takes on Wales Rally one last time. Petter holds a special place in the hearts of DiRT, with many of his most successful cars appearing in our games over the years. As you head into Codemasters HQ we’ve got big tribute artworks on the wall at reception, with Petter’s right there beside Colin McRae.
He’ll be driving the Volkswagen Polo GTI R5, the cover car of DiRT Rally 2.0. Alongside him is the man who guides all of us on a daily basis in-game, co-driver Phil Mills. Best of luck Petter (and Oliver too, though he’s had a rough start so far), go slay that Welsh countryside!
Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi – Coming October 8
The next DiRT Rally 2.0 location is only a few days away, and as the official FIA World Rallycross Championship title we’re delighted to have the new-for-2019 Yas Marina Circuit in-game. I’ve done about 20 laps of the circuit so far to get a feel; it’s looking to me like the most technical circuit in the game so far. Tight chicanes, dangerous kerbs and tricky narrow sections will make this a real test for players.
It was a real test for drivers too when it hosted the opening round of the 2019 season, as this highlights package shows. Big incidents from Nitiss, Bakkerud and Hansen stand out but overall the racing was great.
We’ll have gameplay on YouTube this Monday, the embed’s above so subscribe to our YouTube channel and get notified when it’s live. This time it’s Dan Evans behind the wheel, another of our super-quick drivers in the studio. Himself and Jon Armstrong really put the cars, locations and AI through their paces before you get your hands on them; it’s always a joy to watch them drive flat-out.
In the meantime, here’s more screenshots to go alongside the ones we debuted on The Codies Racing Line yesterday. See you all next week!
